Mareea Paterson is one of the understated legends of the New Zealand music scene. She has worked with formidable acts such as American alt-rockers Veruca Salt, Tim Finn, Bic Runga, Dave Dobbyn, End of Fashion, Brooke Fraser and Jordan Luck to name a few.
A NZ-born Songwriter and Bass Player, Mareea has spent much of her career abroad though has always identified strongly with her Taiwanese-Pākehā whakapapa.
Mareea currently writes with Tom Bailey of Thompson Twin fame and Andrew Maclaren from renown kiwi band stellar* and has begun recording with Louise Post (Veruca Salt), Matt Walker (Filter, Smashing Pumpkins) and Producer Matt Drenik, for Post’s latest album.
Paterson believes there is value in staying focused and persisting with the things that make you feel good, even if the path’s tough. “Discover your authentic self and focus on what you can bring to the world.”
